The National Day of Zimbabwe is on the 18th April (Independence Day, declaration of independence from the United Kingdom 1980. Note that (it had been unilaterally declared independent as Rhodesia already in 1965). The history of  the National Day of Zimbabwe is as follows. In 1953 Zimbabwe started as Southern Rhodesia and was part of a federation.

National Day of Zimbabwe 

Firstly the National Day of Zimbabwe is celebrated annually on the 18th April. Secondly this Independence Day marks the country’s declaration of independence from British colonial rule in 1980. Thirdly the struggle for independence was a long and difficult one, spanning many decades and involving numerous political and social movements. The country’s first nationalist party, the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), was formed in the early 1960s and led a protracted armed struggle against the British colonial government.

 

After years of violence and negotiation, a peace agreement was reached in 1979, paving the way for Zimbabwe’s independence the following year. Since then, April 18th has been celebrated as a national holiday throughout the country, with parades, speeches, and other festivities commemorating the country’s hard-won freedom.
