The National Day of India is celebrated annually on the 26th January. It marks the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950. This replaced the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

The Indian independence movement had been led by several prominent Indian leaders. These leaders included Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru as well as Subhash Chandra Bose. This was achieved with such as boycotts, strikes, and peaceful protests. The movement gained momentum during the 1920s and 1930s. The Salt March of 1930 which was led by Mahatma Gandhi. In protest against the British government’s monopoly over the production and sale of salt was a significant event. They marched 240 miles from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, where they made their own salt by evaporating seawater.

Following World War II, the British government realized that it could no longer hold onto its empire in India, and negotiations began for Indian independence. The Indian Independence Act was passed by the British Parliament on July 18, 1947, which granted independence to India and created the separate countries of India and Pakistan (National Day of Pakistan). On August 15, 1947, India officially became an independent country In addition to the National Day, India also celebrates its Independence Day on 15th August every year, which marks the day when India gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947.
