National Day of Netherlands

Likewise the National Day of the Netherlands is called Koningsdag. This means King’s Day in English and as you will note that this is celebrated annually on the 27th April. Koningsdag is a national holiday in the Netherlands. This is to honor the reigning monarch of the Netherlands.

In 1885 where the origins of Koningsdag started when it was first celebrated as Prinsessedag or Princess’s Day. This was done to honor the birth of Princess Wilhelmina. She was the future queen of the Netherlands. After Wilhelmina ascended to the throne in 1890. Then the holiday was renamed Koninginnedag or Queen’s Day, and it was celebrated on her birthday, August 31st.

Likewise another change came in 2013 with the arrival of the accession of King Willem-Alexander to the throne. the holiday was then again renamed Koningsdag and the date was changed to the 27th April. This is the king’s birthday. Koningsdag is now celebrated as a national holiday in the Netherlands and in Dutch territories around the world. The Kingdom of the Netherlands is a sovereign state located in Western Europe, and it consists of four constituent countries: the Netherlands, Aruba (National Day of Aruba), Curacao, and Sint Maarten.
