(Święto Niepodległości, Independence Day which was the restoration of independence from Austro-Hungary (National Day of Hungary), Prussia, and Russia (National Day of Hungary) in 1918.

This day is a public holiday in Poland and celebrates the adoption of the Constitution of the 3rd May 1791. This was the first written constitution in Europe and second in the world after the United States Constitution. Most people do not know this.

Previously the Constitution of the 3rd May 1791 was a landmark achievement for Poland. This introduced significant reforms to the country’s political system. There was the creation of a bicameral legislature, the Sejm as well as the Senate. Likewise the Constitution also crated new rights as well as freedoms for Polish citizens. These include the freedom of religion as well as the right to own property. The abolition of serfdom was also introduced.
