National Day of Switzerland

The National Day of Switzerland is celebrated annually on the 1st August. You will note that this day celebrates the signing of the Federal Charter of Switzerland in 1291. This Charter of Switzerland was the uniting of the three original cantons of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden. This laid down the foundation for the country’s modern federal state. The day is celebrated with public events, parades, fireworks, and other festivities throughout Switzerland. Many Swiss people also celebrate by enjoying traditional Swiss food and drink, such as raclette, fondue, and Swiss wine. It is a day to celebrate Swiss culture, history, and independence.
