national dayThe National Day of Montenegro is on the 13th July (recognised as independent at the Congress of Berlin 1878), 21 May (independence on the referendum in 2006). Likewise as stated it is celebrated annually on the 13th July and is also known as Statehood Day or Montenegro Day.

National Day of Montenegro

Firstly there are two important events in the history of Montenegro. On July 13th, 1878, the Congress of Berlin recognized Montenegro as a sovereign state. This ended its status as a semi-autonomous principality under the Ottoman Empire. Likewise the second event happened on the 13th July 1941. This is when Montenegro declared its independence from Nazi occupation during World War II. The country became a republic and joined the Yugoslav Partisan resistance movement.

Therefore the National Day of Montenegro is a public holiday, and it is celebrated throughout the country with various cultural events, parades, concerts, and other festivities. Finally the national flag is also raised on this day. Thereupon also see the National Day of Slovenia as well as the National Day of Monaco and National Day of Moldova.
