Bahamas Public Holiday


The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a nation of about 700 islands stretching from Florida to Cuba and Haiti. Over half of the population live on the island of New Providence. The official language is English. See also Caribbean.

Independence Day, July 10. Anniversary of the proclamation of sovereignty in 1973.
Fox Hill Day, second Tuesday in August (Aug 10, 2004). Celebrates the abolition of slavery, and takes place in the area of Fox Hill, about five miles from Nassau, New Providence.
Emancipation Day, first Monday in August (Aug 2, 2004). Commorates the emancipation of British slaves in 1834.
Labour Day, first Friday in June (Jun 4, 2004).
