National Day of Latvia

national dayThe National Day of Latvia is on the 18 November (Declaration of independence from Russia 1918). This day is to celebrated annually the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia on the 18th November 1918. This marks Latvia’s independence from the Russian Empire after World War I.

National Day of Latvia

After World War I is when Latvia declared its independence from the Russian Empire on the 18th November 1918. However, this declaration was not immediately recognized by the Soviet Union, Germany, or other European countries. It was at this time that Latvia had to fight for its independence in the Latvian War of Independence, which lasted from 1918 to 1920.
