The National Day of Costa Rica is on the 15 September (Independence from Spain 1821). It is also known as Independence Day or Día de la Independencia in Spanish. National Day of Costa Rica
The history of the national day of Costa Rica is very interesting. As you might know that Costa Rica was part of the Captaincy General of Guatemala (National Day of Guatemala). This was a Spanish colony that covered Central America as well as southern Mexico to the North. This started with the declaration of independence in Mexico (National Day in Mexico) on the September 15th, 1821. In the interim a provisional junta was established in Guatemala City to govern the territory. This led to the independence of the other Central American provinces, including Costa Rica.
There had been a number of leaders which led to the Costa Rica being freed from the Spanish. These include but not limited to Juan Mora Fernández. He was one of the signatories of the Act of Independence, which declared Costa Rica’s independence from Spain. There was also Jose Maria Castro Madriz who became the country’s first president after independence. Francisco Morazán a South American who led the army that defeated the Spanish forces in Costa Rica in 1823. there was also Gregorio José Ramírez y Castro who was an interim president of the country. In Costa Rica, there are several public holidays throughout the year. Some of the most important ones include:

- Holy Thursday: varies each year, usually in March or April
- Good Friday: varies each year, usually in March or April
- Labor Day: May 1st
- Annexation of Guanacaste Day: July 25th
- Mother’s Day: August 15th
- Independence Day: September 15th
- Christmas Day: December 25th
- Day of the Immaculate Conception: December 8th
